Amateur boxing returns to Carson City today when the Carson City Boxing Club hosts the Northern Nevada Golden Gloves Box-Off.

The card -- expected to feature seven to 15 bouts, according to Carson City Boxing Club director Luis Loe -- is scheduled to get under way at 1 p.m. in the Carson Middle School gym.

Box-Off winners will qualify for a trip to Las Vegas for the Nevada State Golden Gloves tournament later this month.

No matches have been announced, according to Loe, but among the fighters who tentatively could compete today include Harley Kilfian, the Nevada Golden Gloves 175-pound champion last year.

Santo Bruno, Sam Rojas and Chuey Elizondo of Bruno's Boxing Club in Carson City are other possibilities. Elizondo (25-2) is coming off a successful showing at the recent Silver Gloves National Championships in Kansas City where the 13-year-old 119-pounder won twice before losing in the championship bout.

One of the headline bouts of the day, though not part of the Golden Gloves program, will be a 140-pound match between Mike Loe of the Carson City Boxing Club and Jimmy Saldana of the Reno Jets.

Tickets for the show will be priced at $8 for adults and $4 for children, with proceeds going to the Carson City Boxing Club's travel fund.

Bruno's Boxing Club is also scheduled to host a card on April 20 at a site still to be determined.
