Yerington baseball falls to Hawthorne

Walks, errors and hit batters hurt the Yerington baseball team in its 8-1 loss to Hawthorne on Tuesday.


Yerington actually outhit Hawthorne 3-1, but Hawthorne took advantage of eight walks, three hit batters and four errors. Hawthorne scored five runs in the sixth inning to break the game open. Stephen Tognoli scored after drawing a leadoff walk for Yerington's only run.


Josh Hurt didn't allow an earned run through the first five innings for the Lions. Hurt, Michael Soukup and Marcus Masini combined to strike out nine. Jon-Jon Neade, Hurt and Josh Farler had Yerington's three hits.
