Fernley baseball sweeps North Tahoe

Tony Selden drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener and Matt Lambeth pitched a shutout in the nightcap as the Fernley High baseball team swept North Tahoe on Saturday.


The Vaqueros won the opener 9-8 and the nightcap 10-0. Lambeth had a huge day for Fernley (5-2 in the Northern 3A division), going 6-for-8.


In the opener Fernley trailed 8-7 going into the bottom of the seventh. Brian Reeder drew a walk and stole second.


Lambeth was intentionally walked and Tim Hines was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rupley hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Selden followed with his game-winning single.


Adam Schwab doubled and scored two runs, Reeder went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Rupley had two RBIs, Selden went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Derek Henry was 2-for-4 with a double and Matt Molina went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double for Fernley.


Reeder was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on one hit over the final two innings. Rupley allowed three earned runs over the first five innings.


Lambeth pitched a two-hitting, striking out eight and walking one in the nightcap that was called after five innings. He was also 3-for-4 with three RBIs.


Schwab and Reeder each had a hit, two RBIs and a run, Steve Tustin went 1-for-1, Rupley and Selden each had one RBI, Henry doubled and Molina went 1-for-1 with two runs.
