Dayton baseball clinches playoff berth

The Dayton High baseball team swept Yerington on Wednesday to earn a spot in the Northern 3A playoffs.


Dayton rolled to a 21-1 win over Yerington in the opener and beat the Lions 15-7 in the nightcap. The Dust Devils finished 7-9 in league play.


Reese Shelton was the winning pitcher in game one. Matt Sumsion went 3-for-4 and Tim Torres, Ryan Jacobsen, Brian Irwin, Shelton and Casey Skog all had two hits for the Dust Devils.


Jake Deen was the winning pitcher in game two and also had four RBIs. Matt Bowman had two hits and three RBIs and Tim Torres, Deen, Irwin, Skog, Jacobsen and Adam Diament all had two hits. Bowman and Deen also homered for the Dust Devils.
