DOUGLAS 80, SPRING CREEK 41

Coach Keith Lewis was pleased with the way his Douglas boys basketball team responded after a 73-64 loss to Reed on Thursday.

"They came out a lot more focused," Lewis said. "As a coach, you're worried how they would respond. We're still feeling our way a little bit. We had some nice sequences during the game."

Douglas started rather slow, and Lewis blamed himself for running players in and out of the lineup a tad too quick.

The Tigers, leading 17-7 after the first period, erupted for 28 second-quarter points and a 45-21 advantage.

Lewis praised the defensive work of seniors Andy McIntosh, Nick Summers and Luke Rippee.

Rippee scored 12, and appears to have made a smooth transition to basketball after a superb football season. He has scored in double figures two straight games.

"Luke has played very well up here," Lewis said. "He's played well across the board (defense, rebounding)."

Freshman center Keith Olson also had another solid game, scoring a team-high 16 points. He's average nearly 19 points a game thus far.

"Keith did a good job of passing over the top (of the defense)," Lewis said. "Three or four times during the game, he got a rebound and fired it three-quarters of the way downcourt."
