Leck, Hucke to face off in playoffs

Two local athletes will face off against each other today in the regional semifinals of the NCAA women's volleyball championships.

Carson High graduate Kaitlin Leck and No. 12 Washington (22-8) will take on Fallon graduate Jennifer Hucke and No. 5 Stanford (25-6) when the two schools meet at 5:30 p.m. today in Long Beach California. Today's match is scheduled to be televised live by Fox Sports Net Pacific Northwest.

The winner of today's match will face the winner between No. 4 Pepperdine (27-2) and No. 13 Minnesota (24-10) in the regional final for the right to play in the Final Four.

Leck and Hucke are both junior starting outside hitters for their respective teams that have advanced to the sweet 16. Leck, an all-Pac 10 Academic honorable mention choice, had an excellent showing when Washington beat Stanford 30-25, 30-27, 20-30, 30-28 earlier this season Leck finished with 11 kills.

For the season, Leck has 196 kills (2.36 per game) and a solid .267 hitting percentage, 92 digs (1.11) and 58 blocks (0.70). For the season, Hucke has 163 kills (1.6) and a .222 hitting percentage, 54 assists (0.53), 236 digs (2.31) and 60 blocks (0.53).
