KINGS BEACH, Calif. -- Authorities in Placer County have decided against filing any charges against the parents of an infant who was mauled to death by the family dog at Lake Tahoe.

The 2-week-old girl was killed Dec. 11 at a North Shore home in Kings Beach.

Placer County investigators told KTVN-TV in Reno Wednesday that the death has been ruled accidental. They said no charges will be filed, but did not elaborate on their findings.

Sheriff's deputies said last month that the child's mother was the only one at home at the time. They said the mother told officers she laid the baby on the bed and left the room for just a short time.

A heater running in the room apparently drowned out any noise from the dog or the child.
