Obituary: William Slocum

A funeral Mass for William Joseph Slocum, 89, an El Dorado Hills, Calif., resident for the past six years and former Gardnerville resident for 31 years, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.

A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Mr. Slocum died July 2, 2003, in Roseville, Calif. He was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Beachmont, Mass., to William V. and Anna M. Horak Slocum.

He received a master's of business administration degree from Harvard University.

He married Mary E. Wood. She preceded him death June 23, 2003, in Sacramento.

Mr. Slocum was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was past president of the Lions Club of Santa Cruz, Calif.; director and secretary/treasurer of the Kingsbury General Improvement District; chairman; and on the board of directors of the Kingsbury Fire Protection District; was on the board of directors for the Sierra Chapter, American Red Cross; and was chairman of the Douglas County Republican Central Committee.

Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan A. and Pete Price of El Dorado Hills; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A vault burial will be at Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville.

Memorial contributions may be made to a local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
