Adele's, a 25-year-old Carson City restaurant, won best rural place for a romantic evening in a Nevada Magazine reader's poll.

"The building has a historic feel," said owner Charlie Abowd, who has accepted 11 other best-of awards from publications for the restaurant last year. "It's like being at your grandmother's house. It emits a feeling of comfort as soon as you walk in the door."

Adele's along with other local businesses and places of recreation were winners of the sixth annual Best of Nevada poll, published in the magazine's July-August issue.

Pi-on Plaza won as Carson City's best hotel for the second year in a row.

"Our employees are on a friendship basis with many clients, said Jackie Behan, Pi-on Plaza's director of sales and advertising. "We are well recieved by locals because they are bonded by the friendships."

Other local winners included the Carson Nugget for Carson City's best place to gamble and friendliest casino, the Carson Valley Inn for Carson Valley's best hotel, friendliest casino and best place to gamble, the Dayton Valley Country Club as best rural golf course and the Nevada State Museum as best museum in Northern Nevada.

Virginia City also raked in the awards.

The city captured the best rural place to take a photo, best rural place to take kids, and the best all-around historic place. The Virginia City camel races received best rural special event and the best rural saloon went to the Bucket of Blood.

Rich Moreno, publisher of Nevada magazine, said the reader's poll received nearly 1,000 responses, generating more attention than any other feature in the magazine.

"People like it because everyone wants to tell about their favorite place," he said. "People can write in comments, so we get a lot of ideas from our readers. I learn something new every year."
