Aaron Heberger and Austin Beemer of the Carson Rodeo Club are in strong contention to qualify for the National High School Rodeo Finals, heading into today's final day of the Nevada High School Rodeo Assocation Championships in Wells.

During his go-rounds, Heberger of Washoe Valley placed third in calf roping and fourth in steer wrestling. Beemer of Douglas High was one of only four competitors to complete successful rides in bull riding on Friday. More competitors were scheduled to compete in bull riding on Saturday.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the National Championships to be held July 21-27 in Farmington, N.M. Heberger is also in contention to qualify for nationals in the all-around.

Two other Carson competitors -- Keston Denny of Carson Valley and Jesse Bartorelli of Douglas -- are in strong contention to qualify for the Silver State Rodeo to be held July 2-6 in Fallon. The top finishers who don't qualify for nationals qualify for the Fallon event.

Bartorelli placed fourth in his go-round in bareback riding and Denny teamed with Fallon's Kyle Moore to take second in their go-round in team roping.

Two Carson girls also had strong performances in their go-round in barrel racing. Brianna Nalder of Douglas placed ninth and Pin Wendel of Carson High took 10th.
