A Clark County man's freedom from Ely Conservation Camp was short-lived Thursday.

Charles Bridgewater, 35, was discovered missing by camp officials in a 2 a.m. bed check. Correctional officers tracked him eastward from the camp near Ely for more than eight hours before recapturing him at about 10:30 a.m.

Assistant camp director Glen Whorton said Bridgewater was found walking in a remote area of North Spring Valley 20 miles east of the camp.

Bridgewater was serving a 12- to 36-month sentence for auto theft and evading a police officer in Clark County.

Whorton said he will be charged with escape. The case will be referred to the Attorney General's Office for prosecution.
