"At a time when so many senior citizens cannot afford to pay for the medicines they need, it would be unconscionable for us to fail to take advantage of a federal program that will enable us to double the amount of money currently available to provide assistance," Buckley said.

She said the new federal funding will enable the state to help disabled seniors afford the prescription medicines they need.

The bill was forwarded to the Senate for review.
