God has secrets

This verse indicates that there are things God has chosen to reveal to us, and things that He has not revealed to us, noted here as "the secret things" or the "hidden things."

As I pondered this verse, I thought about times I have heard people say things like, "When I get to heaven, I'm going to ask the Lord about this." Certainly there are many things that we don't currently understand E will we perhaps E or perhaps not. Grasp what this verse is saying: God has secrets. We won't always be able to figure everything out, and that's OK because we serve a loving God who wants the best for us in all things (Jeremiah 29:11). We can trust Him.

Rather than spending a lot of time on what we don't know, look closely at what this verse does say: God has revealed much to us so that we can follow Him and know Him.

Focus on those things -- take time daily to read God's Word and communicate with Him -- obey those things you read and what He says to you.

Secondly, it says that the things revealed belong to us and to our children. Here I see two things:

n Our responsibility as parents to pass on to our children the things of God: "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up." (Deuteronomy 6:7).

n God's commitment to all generations: "I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; with my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations." (Psalms 89:1).

Don't worry about the secrets God doesn't let us in on. Rather give yourself to the things He does reveal -- they belong to us -- and live them out.
