Keston Denny enjoyed a happy Easter before the hometown crowd at the Carson-Douglas High School Rodeo Sunday at Fuji Park.

Denny, a Douglas High junior who competes for the Carson-Douglas club, placed second in steer wrestling and tied for second in bull riding to wrap up the two-day rodeo.

In the steer competition, he was less than two-tenths of a second away from winning with a 4.39 clocking that trailed only Sterling Lambert of Fallon (4.21). Fellow Carson-Douglas team member, Aaron Heberger, was a close third in the event with a 5.16 clocking.

For Denny, who came into the weekend fifth in the season standings, the performance helped out in his bid to qualify for the national finals this summer. The top four in each event qualifies to represent Nevada at the national rodeo.

Meanwhile, Denny posted a score of 73 points in the bull riding to earn a three-way tie for second-place. Chad Steele of Alamo won the event with a 75.

Jesse Bartorelli captured third-place in bareback riding with a score of 68 for Carson-Douglas.

Alyce Kugler took sixth in barrel racing with a time of 18.496 and she shared sixth-place in girls cutting with a score of 71.

Fallon's Jade Corkill rode off with the day's all-around cowboy saddle and Abbie Marvel of Winnemucca won the all-around cowgirl award.

The Nevada high school rodeo circuit continues this coming Saturday and Sunday in Lovelock.
