CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) had the same report as last week: The lake is still iced over, the ice is thin and there is open water by the spillway. They are drawing water from the lake which means that there is now a gap between the thin ice and the water below. He recommends not to venture out onto the ice because it is dangerous.

Doug Busey reported that the lake is rising 1/3-1/2 foot a day and the Marina boat launch will be open on Memorial Day Weekend, weather permitting.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Will open on Saturday, April 24 and both the East and West Forks were planted on Wednesday for that Saturday opener.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported the weather was mean over the weekend, especially on Sunday with lots of wind.

There were some limits from shore on Saturday with Power Bait or inflated worms.

Float tubers, who were spincasting with lures, did not do well, and got blow off by the wind on Saturday afternoon.

Fly fishermen were using Woolly Bugger flies.

Spincasters were using small lures.

Summit Lake (above Indian Creek Reservoir): No report.

JUNE LAKE LOOP AREA, CALIF: Will open April 24.

KINNEY RESERVOIR, CALIF: No report.

KNOTT CREEK RESERVOIR, NEV: Will open June 12.

LOWER KINNEY LAKE: No report.

KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: Will open April 24.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV:

Troy at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750) said the reservoir is still at about 225,000 acres feet of water.

The fishing has been, just about everywhere for everything.

The area from Beach No. 4 all the way around to Virginia Beach has been good for Walleye, Wipers and White Bass.

Beach No. 10 is producing catfish at night but be careful of the sand and don't get stuck.

Last week, there was a 31-inch Walleye caught on minnows.

LEAVITT LAKE, CALIF: Will open April 24.

LIBERTY POND IN CHURCHILL COUNTY: No report.

LUNDY LAKE, CALIF: Will open April 24.

MAMMOTH LAKES AREA, CALIF: Will open April 24.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV:

Valerie at Crosby's Lodge (775-476-0400) reported that fishing has been generally slow. They have not weighed a fish all week. The weather has been goofy: Cold, then warm, then cold, with wind and rain.

Doug Ouellette of the Gillys Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported that fishing has off and on. Friday was red hot, Saturday was tough and Sunday was very windy.

Chris Wharton of Reno had a big day at the South Nets on Thursday. He caught an 8-pounder and had a 40-fish day, while fly fishing with purple Woolly Bugger and tan Beetle flies.

A representative of the Pyramid Lake Store (775-476-0555) said that the fishing has been slow, overall, as the fish are not biting. Lots of fishermen, but no good reports, and no fish weighed in during the week.

George (Pyramid Lake Charters) was out on Saturday and his clients caught 4 keepers. On Sunday, he had the same results.

RAYMOND LAKE, CALIF: No report.

RANCHO SAN RAFAEL POND IN RENO: No report.

RED LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey reported open water around the edges on the north side. The remaining ice is unsafe.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: Has lots of open water around the edges, with thin ice out in the middle.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "Sunday was very windy by 10 a.m. The weather is terrible today (Tuesday). Yesterday, my friend, Pete, and I went out, and we caught 8 and kept 4, but nothing big.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones. Catching mostly average size fish, with nothing super big.

I'm trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he has been out the last three days at the Camp Richardson area. The Macks are running 3-8 pounds with 5-8 fish per trip. He is trolling with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 180-280 feet deep. He occasionally fishes for suspended Mackinaw in water that is 600 feet deep. During the past 10 days, he has had to cancel four charters due to the wind.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said, "Cave Rock Shelf has been producing average-sized Macks (3-6 pounds with the largest running 7-9 pounds) at 180-260 feet. He is using a short leader, Dodgers and live minnows.

Toplining has slowed way down.

TOPAZ LAKE: A representative of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported that the fishing has been very good. Fishermen were catching and releasing trout from their float tubes on Tuesday morning, before the wind came up.

Doug Busey reported that two anglers who were driftfishing on the south end with nighcrawlers caught 9 rainbows (2.2-3.3 pounds).

Jim Sutter of Gardnerville caught a $250 tagged trout.

Shore fishing is good with orange Power Bait.

TRUCKEE RIVER:

Little Truckee River, Calif: Will open April 24.

Truckee River, Nev: Doug Ouellette of The Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported that the river is high, fast and cold, and you need to fish along the edges.

The best areas to fish are at Lockwood, Mustang and Derby Dam. Use stream flies, small spinners or Rapala lures.

Truckee Canal, Nev: No report.

Another week and the water should go over the top of the old dam.

The shore fishing is excellent with nightcrawlers or Power Bait for lots of Perch and rainbows, standard size.
