Austin Beemer of Minden and Cochise College, earned a trip to the college national championships as he captured second-place in bull riding at the Sierra Vista (Ariz.) Rodeo on Friday night.

The performance enabled Beemer, a freshman at Cochise (Douglas, Ariz.), to clinch a top-two finish in the Grand Canyon Region's season bull riding standings. Friday's ride was noteworthy for the 5-foot-5, 125-pound Beemer because he completed his ride aboard Air Time - a bull that weighs in at 2,284 pounds.

Beemer has enjoyed a highly successful month of April, having won the collegiate bull riding at the New Mexico State Rodeo in Las Cruces on April 2-3 in addition to winning a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event in Benson, Ariz.

The College National Finals Rodeo will be held in Gillette, Wyo., on June 13-19.
