A memorial service with military honors for Samuel Franklin Eischeid, 81, a Gardnerville resident for the past 20 years, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
Mr. Eischeid died Jan. 16, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to William J. and Cora G. Mynster Eischeid.
He graduated from high school and finished one year of college in California.
He married Nancy Tedford.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Bullhead City, Ariz., for 10 years and Los Angeles for 36 years.
Mr. Eischeid served in the U.S. Army for three years in India. He was a fire captain for the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 32 years. He was a Catholic and loved boating, golfing, woodworking and traveling with his wife.
Among his survivors are his wife of Gardnerville; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Rick Liebersbach of Mammoth, Calif.; sisters Shirley Scott of North Bend, Ore., and Rosemary Lazzerini of Bakersfield, Calif.; grandchildren Matthew and Jennifer; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of Northern Nevada.
Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
