It was an impressive win for the Carson High wrestling team over a solid program in Reno.

But even after his team won 59-18 on Wednesday at Reno, coach Dean Schmanski had to keep himself from being too critical of his team's performance. In the nine matches wrestled against Reno, Carson went 6-3.

"To go 6-3, that's positive," Schmanski said. "I guess we wrestled all right. My standards are a little high."

Owen Craugh (103 pounds), Nick Shine (215) and Jason Klug (heavyweight) all won by pin for Carson. Klug's win was impressive as he pinned Brandon Kummer, who's ranked in the state coaches poll.

Travis Lamborn (140) and Micah Whitcome (145) won by majority decision for Carson, with Lamborn winning 15-1 and Whitcome picking up an impressive 10-1 win over Matt Lundy, one of Northern Nevada's top wrestlers. Kevin Riggin (130) also won 11-4 for Carson.

Reno's three best wrestlers did come up big. At 135, Flint Reno pinned Ahron Osheroff. Mike Kummer moved up to 171 and pinned Joe Roman. Jake Killeen pinned Chris Ceccarelli at 189. Killeen and Ceccarelli are now 2-2 with all the matches won by pin.

Robbie Bozin (112), Kyle Banko (119), Eric Aguilera (125), Jonas Schenzel (152) and Loren Wooldridge (160) all won by forfeit.

"These dual matches are important to win. They go for seeding in league," said Schmanski, commenting on the Sierra League Championships on Jan. 31.

Schmanski did say his team wasn't as fundamentally sound as he would have liked. "We need to work some more on the fundamentals again," Schmanski said. "One week we're really seeing the fundamentals and the next week we're mediocre."

For Carson's No. 2 team, Adam Carmazzi won by pin at 103, Mark Graham pinned a Reno wrestler at 112, Kyle Cahill beat a South Tahoe wrestler 177-1, Mathew Heath defeated a South Tahoe wrestler 5-4 and Stephen Remer pinned a Reno wrestler.
