Investigators say a second person could be charged in a South Carson City shooting Saturday in which a 14-year-old boy was wounded in the leg.

An alleged dispute between members of rival gangs broke out about 11 p.m. at a mobile home park on Koontz Lane when 14-year-old tenant Luis Ruiz was shot in the femur.

Investigators believe Raul Perez-Sandavol, 19, fired at least three 9mm shots from an Isuzu truck as he was driven away from the scene by a 16-year-old, whose name is being withheld because of his age.

It's not clear what caused the dispute, other than gang rivalry, said Carson City Sheriff's Detective Bob Motamenpour.

"Once the shooting started, everyone ran," Sgt. Bob White added.

According to the police report, Ruiz identified the juvenile suspect by name as being with Perez-Sandoval. Ruiz was taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center, where he was treated and released, White said.

The teen, Perez-Sandoval and the truck were located at the teenager's home he shares with his mother in the 3400 block of Highway 50 East

White said two 9mm bullet casings found at the scene of the shooting matched a single cartridge found in the bed of the pickup.

Perez-Sandavol was arrested on suspicion of felony attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The 16-year-old boy was arrested on a juvenile probation violation charge.

"We are looking at principal to attempted murder and principal to battery charges on the juvenile," White said. It's unclear if the juvenile will be charged as an adult.

He said this shooting is not connected to a May 25 shooting in which Juan Carlos Alegria, 23, was killed following a dispute on West Eighth Street.

"(The Alegria) shooting was not gang-related," White said, "It was domestic."

Perez-Sandoval is being held on $75,000 bail.
