Carson City supervisors clarified the transient occupancy tax ordinance to make it clear it applies to all hotels, motels and residential motels for the first month a person occupies the dwelling.
After that, residents in those places don't have to pay the 10 percent room tax. The change also clarifies that the ordinance isn't intended to apply to apartments but is intended to apply to RV parks.
Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Candace Duncan said the old law was confusing and applied in some cases but not others. She said the change was designed to clear up that confusion, not to hit low-income people with a new tax and that it probably would generate an insignificant amount of money.
In other business, supervisors:
n Awarded a $587,768 contract to Zim Industries to drill two production wells for the city. The wells will each be about 620 feet deep and city officials expect them to generate up to 15,800 gallons per minute of water for municipal and industrial use in the city.
"These two additional production wells will provide the much needed increase in water supply in order to continue to meet summer peak demands placed upon the water system," according to the staff report.
n Approved the annual renewal of the city's lease with the Bureau of Land Management for the city landfill. BLM leases 170 acres to the city for the landfill. The lease was approved because the city application to buy the property is still pending at BLM.
n Approved a tentative subdivision map for a project to construct 13 single-family homes on 5.94 acres of land on North Edmonds Drive. The project will be called Sundance Ridge Development.
