A Reno man was killed Saturday evening when the motorcycle he was riding went off State Route 341, known as Geiger Grade. It was Saturday's second fatal motorcycle accident after a Sparks man was killed that afternoon near Silver Springs.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol reports, the Geiger Grade accident occurred when the rider, whose name was not released pending notification of family, failed to negotiate a sweeping left turn at about 6:30 p.m.

He was traveling north toward the intersection with Highway 395 when the motorcycle went onto a dirt shoulder. The black 1984 Honda tumbled, ejecting the rider.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Careflight rescue helicopter landed nearby. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Timothy McArthur, 52, of Sparks, was killed and his wife Jill, 50, was seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with a pickup about noon Saturday on U.S. 95 Alternate just south of Silver Springs.

McArthur died after his motorcycle struck a pickup that drove into his path, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

He veered in an attempt to avoid the collision, but his motorcycle struck the truck driven by Dennis Hampton, 47, of Carson City.
