A graveside service for Jack E. Moffitt, 78, a Yerington resident for the past 42 years, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Mr. Moffitt died Oct. 3, 2004, in Minden. He was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Dallas, Ore., to Edward and Amy Mott Moffitt.

He married Evelyn G. Judd on June 1, 1952, in Independence, Ore.

Mr. Moffitt was employed mostly in public works in various cities. His final retirement was as a purchasing agent for O'Sullivan Plastics in Mason Valley. He was a retired member of the Mason Valley Volunteer Fire Department and he enjoyed fishing and traveling.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was involved in the Asiatic-Pacific area campaign.

He was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Pervis, Norma Gorman, Ramona Scrimger and Doris Rush.

Among his survivors are his wife of Yerington; sons and daughters-in-law Paul and Maureen of Castle Rock, Ore., and Mark and Jerri of Carson City; daughter, Tammy Moffitt of Reno; sister, Frances Effie Gerber of Eugene, Ore.; grandchildren Josh and Zach Moffitt of Carson City; and special family friend Linda Kaiser of Lovelock.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Yerington Volunteer Fire Department.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
