The Carson High boys tennis team showed its growth early in the season by pulling out several close matches in a 26-19 win at North Tahoe on Thursday.
The match was a contrast from the Senators' season opener when they lost several close matches in a loss to Truckee.
"They were just about the same as the Truckee match," Carson coach Pat Houlihan said. "I think there were pretty good matchups.
"We pulled out the close matches. They're playing better and learning how to finish the sets off."
After losing his first match in a tiebreaker, Josh Caron came back to win two close matches both by 7-5, 7-5 scores in singles. Chris Weir also won two-of-three matches in singles.
In doubles, Carson's No. 1 team of Bryt Lewis and Johnny Kim swept their three matches and Nathaniel Hamer and Tyler Lewis won two of three matches. Also in doubles, Todd Crowell and Adam Houghton provided Carson with a key 6-4 win in the last round.
In other matches, Tyler Wing won 7-5 in singles and Brad Cobler and Alex Wing won 6-1 in doubles.
Carson will host Douglas on Tuesday at Centennial Park. "We're anticipating another tough match," Houlihan said.
The match between Carson's girls and North Tahoe at Centennial Park wasn't played due to a scheduling mix-up. The match has been tentatively rescheduled for Oct. 5.
