The Douglas High School wrestling team finished third at the Lawrence Miller Memorial tournament - a long standing tradition in Bay Area prep sports that dates back to the 1970s - at Alhambra High School in Martinez, Calif.
Individually, the Tigers were led by Bradley Johnson and Ryan Pruitt, who advanced to the finals of their respective 140- and 152-pound weight classes.
Johnson dropped a one-point decision in his championship round match to Isaac Westphal of tournament host Alhambra.
Pruitt, a sophomore who was seeded third coming into the tournament, advanced to the semifinals and knocked off the No. 2 seed from Mission San Jose High (Fremont, Calif.). Pruitt went 3-1 on the day with one pin.
Ryan Olson (103), Devon Barker (112), Bryan Kaplan (119), Tony Ferris (125) and Matt Castro (275) all went 1-2 on the day to place fourth in their respective divisions.
Cameron Ames (130) and Jake Williams (145) both fell to narrow losses in the second round then battled back with impressive three straight wins each to earn fifth-place medals. Ames had three pins and Williams two en route to their medals.
Tokay High of Lodi won the team championship with 214.5 points, followed by Alhambra with 177 and Douglas with 147.
