Jacquelyn Sandage, a captain with the Nevada Highway Patrol, is one of 25 graduates in the nation to earn her master's degree from the Department of Homeland Security.
Public Safety Director George Togliatti commended her commitment to the department's goal of helping Nevada develop strategic preparedness initiatives for acts of terrorism and natural disasters.
The master's degree program is an 18-month course of study which includes two weeks of in-residence training each quarter at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. Courses include agro-terrorism in rural America, public health policy and weapons detection and prevention strategies.
Sandage, 36, is a 13-year veteran of NHP and the first woman in NHP history to be appointed a captain. She has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Nevada, Reno.
