A Rosary will be said for James David Burke, 76, of Minden at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville. A funeral service will follow.

Mr. Burke died Oct. 13, 2005, after a short illness.

He was born Nov. 13, 1928, to David and Lucilla Lusha Burke in Wisconsin.

He sailed with the merchant marines on board Chevron oil tankers, then moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1948 where he built a large trucking company, starting with one dump truck he called "Blue Goose."

In 1957, he moved to Vacaville, Calif., where he owned and operated Truck-A-Way trucking company for 25 years.

In his retirement years, he traveled the world and twice assisted fledgling businesses in Poland and Russia to help in the transition into free enterprise.

Among his survivors are his wife, Donna, of 57 years; children Marie, Jimmy, Richard, Peter, Paul, Marjorie and Matthew; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
