Carson boys tennis falls to South Tahoe

Despite a valiant effort, the Carson High boys tennis team couldn't pull out the match it needed in a 10-8 loss at South Tahoe on Tuesday.


The contest was tied 6-6 going into the final round, with Carson losing two matches after it led 5-3.


"But take nothing away from South Tahoe," Carson coach Pat Houlihan said. "They did what they had to do to pull it out. I was very pleased with the effort."


In the final round, Evan Thayer was up 5-3 in singles but ended up losing in a tiebreaker 6-7 (4-7). "He played his heart out," Houlihan said.


In doubles, Adam Hougton and Nathaniel Hamer also lost 5-7 after leading 5-3 in the final round. Houghton and Hamer suffered another tough 5-7 loss, but won their other match 6-3.


Chris Wear and Nick Smallman swept in doubles, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 while Josh Caron and Bryt Lewis won 6-4, 6-3. In singles, Spencer Brinson won 6-1 and Ryan Dwyer won 6-2.


Ben Henningsen and Derek Turoff played well in losses against South Tahoe's No. 1 player. In other matches, Jordan Rodgers and Travis Trethan won 6-1 and Brad Cobler and Grant Jeppson won 6-4 in doubles.


SOUTH TAHOE 13, CARSON GIRLS 5


The Carson High girls tennis team fell to a talented South Tahoe team on Tuesday at Centennial Park, but still had its share of highlights.


Lisa Midboe won 6-3, Shanni Eng won 6-4 and Hilary Schlager won 6-2 in singles and Amanda Gohr and Kristen Charles won 6-2 and Jenni Hood and Kirsti Philippi won 6-4 in doubles. Magan Carter and Emily Wang also played well in a 6-7 loss in doubles.


In other matches, Schlager and Desi Casi won 6-3 in doubles and Tracy Morris and Amanda Nelson both played well in singles before both fell 3-6.
