A rally to support American troops deployed to Iraq is scheduled for Sunday on the Legislative grounds.

Organizer P.J. Degross said there will be a banner to sign to be sent to Iraq to some of the troops she's adopted through her adopt-a-soldier program.

Degross said she will also sell yellow ribbons for $1, to help offset the cost of care packages sent to Americans in the Persian Gulf.

The Carson City rally from noon to 3 p.m. will coincide with a rally in Washington, D.C., organized by the group "Move America Forward."

"This is to support our troops, support their mission, and to answer back to all those, including Cindy Sheehan and the anti-war anti-government protesters," Degross said. "Please help me with this project. It is so important to counteract the negative media that demoralizes our soldiers who are in harm's way."

Sheehan is the mother of a U.S. Army soldier killed in Iraq in April. She attracted international attention in August with her extended demonstration against the continuing the Iraq war at a peace camp outside of President Bush's Texas ranch.

"Move America Forward is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to supporting America's efforts to defeat terrorism and supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces," according to the group's mission statement on its Web site.
