The Carson Senator Pee Wee youth football team began its defense of its regional title by posting two shutouts to begin the season.
Carson beat the Reno 49ers 28-0 and then this past Friday beat the Sparks Cardinals 18-0 in a battle of unbeaten teams.
Against Sparks, Gabriel Pongasi set up the Senators' first touchdown by catching a pass from Chance Quilling and running 50 yards to the Sparks 5-yard line. On the next play, Dylan Sawyers scored. Later, Quilling hit Shea Bondi on a 40-yard scoring pass.
"Our offensive line consisting of Keegan Aiazzi, Bondi, John Borges, Levi Carter, Keith Collier, Alex Crathers, Nick Garcia, Rafe King, Chris Johnson, Nate Landes, Jake Myers, Logan Peternell, Pongosi, Jake Thompson and Andrew Toland did a great job blocking and opening holes for our quarterbacks Sean Cutunilli and Quilling and running backs Jaylin Haywood, Austin Pacheco, Quilling, Sawyers and Joe Zinda," offensive line coach Chris Taylor said.
Bondi, Austin Brown, Patrick Craugh, Cole Dufresne, Matt Galvin, Haywood, Aaron Hernandez, Patrick Hesse, Russel Jones, Edward Meza, Pacheco, Clinton Page, Chris Paras, Peternell, Pongasi, Quilling, Sawyers, Zach White and Zinda led the defense. Pongasi intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards to give Carson an 18-0 lead.
"We have some first-year players that have come a long way," defensive line coach Junior Lopez said. "I am really proud of all these kids and the way they came to play ball.
The Senators have posted 10 shutouts in 13 regional games over the past two years. Carson will next play the Sparks Raiders at 8 p.m. Friday at Governor's Field No. 6.
