A fire originating in a garage caused approximately $60,000 in damage to a home in the 3000 block of Imperial Way Sunday evening.

The fire started at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, and remained concentrated in the garage and attic of the home. The owner, John Anderson, 52, was inside the house when the blaze began. He, along with his neighbors, moved cars away from the home before the Carson City Fire Department arrived.

"The roof started smoking, so we ran over there and got the cars out of the driveway and off the street," neighbor Mark Wilson said.

"We tried to move the RV because of the propane, but he couldn't find the keys."

Battalion Chief Rich Chrzanowski said the fire caused considerable smoke damage to the house and garage.

"When we arrived there was heavy smoke coming out of the garage and attic space," Chrzanowski said.

The fire also got into the contents of the attic, making it harder for firefighters to completely extinguish the blaze. Chrzanowski estimated the damage to the home and its contents at about $60,000.

The exact cause of the fire was still under investigation.
