Silver Sox pick up catcher Chikazawa

The Reno Silver Sox signed catcher Masashi Chikazawa to a contract over the weekend. Chikazawa, a native of Kyoto, Japan, was originally drafted in 2001 with the No. 3 pick by the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes.

Chikazawa played in four games in the Japanese Major Leagues with the Buffaloes going 1-for-2 with a two-run double.

In 2002, Chikazawa was one of four Buffaloes invited to the Los Angeles Dodgers Major League camp. However, after two months he did not make the club.

Chikazawa has played in four games for the Sox heading into Wednesday, going 5-for-15 with a double and two home runs, one of which was a grand slam against the San Diego Surf Dawgs.
