BAC hosts three days of jazz variety


The Brewery Arts Center announces Lydia Pense and Cold Blood will be the premier headliner of "Jazz & Beyond," starting a weekend music festival on Friday.


"Jazz & Beyond: A Festival of Music, Food and Fun," will run through Sunday and brings talented headliners, 23 acts on five performance venues, late-night jams, three popular music genres, themed food and crafts. Admission is free. Also, the Brewery Arts Center's 14th annual Beer Tasting event is Friday.


The festival will be at and between both arts center performance venues 449 and 511 W. King St. and includes the headliner outdoor concert stage, the outdoor intimate stage, the Maytan Family Gathering place, the indoor performance hall and the late-night Jamland (beginning at 10 p.m.) in the Black Box Theatre. St. Gall to hold inquiry session


St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville will be holding an inquiry session for those who are interested in learning about the Catholic faith at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pastoral Center. The inquiry phase has no obligation. Call 782-2852.




DAWG to hold Dirty Dog Wash


The Douglas Animal Welfare Group's Dirty Dog Wash fundraiser is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Animal Medical Services at 1355 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. All donations benefit DAWG. Call 450-6248.

Kids can learn about seeds and trees


Children ages 3-6 can learn how a tree grows from a seed then take a walk around the Wilbur D. May Arboretum to explore the trees during a free "Touching Nature" program at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Participants should meet in front of the Ranger's office. Hiking guidebook author to sign at Sundance Bookstore


Reno author Mike White will sign copies of his book "Afoot and Afield Reno-Tahoe" at a free book signing and slide-show event 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sundance Bookstore, 1155 W. Fourth St. No. 106. Call 786-1188.




Ranger-led hike of Hidden Valley Park


Park rangers will lead a hike of Hidden Valley Regional Park's variety of natural wildlife and views at 7 p.m. Thursday. Participants should meet at the tennis court near the park entrance at 4740 Parkway Drive in Reno, wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Call 828-6612.


Fallon


Fallon hosts Derailers at outdoor concert


A free outdoor summer concert with The Derailers is at Oats Park in Fallon at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.


The Derailers have been called a country band with a rocking heart. Their sound blends Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam's Bakersfield Sound with the Beatles, Credence Clearwater, the Doors and Johnny Cash.
