A memorial service for Leon John Birmingham, 89, a 40-year resident of Northern Nevada, will be 1:30 p.m. Dec. 30 at Carson Valley Christian Church, 1095 Stephanie Way, Minden.

Mr. Birmingham died Dec. 15, 2006, in Minden. He was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Sawyerville, Quebec, to Edward and Flossie Birmingham.

He attended high school in Woodstock, Vt.

Before moving to northern Nevada, Mr. Birmingham lived in Vermont and New York.

For most of his life, Mr. Birmingham worked in the construction and logging industries.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Among his survivors are his daughters Judy Collette of Carson Cit, and Nancy Pagni of Fort Meyers, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sharon Birmingham of Minden; daughter-in-law Frances Birmingham of Beaverton, Ore.; sisters Made Knudsen of Bridgewater Corners, Vt., Winnie Pearce of St. Cloud, Fla., and Eva Bernier of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and several extended-family members.

Burial will take place at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
