A memorial service for Robert James Thompson, 65, a seven-year Dayton resident, will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church of Carson City.

Mr. Thompson died Feb. 4, 2006, at his home from a long-term illness. He was born April 25, 1940, in Chicago to Julius Thompson and Eleanor Grimes.

He married Carole Cooper-McManamon in 1987 in Elmhurst, Ill.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Chicago for 32 years.

Mr. Thompson enjoyed collecting records and music, including doo-wop, R&B, early pop, rockabilly and '50s rock 'n' roll.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Vogel.

Among his survivors are his wife; stepchildren Teresa, Patrick, Michael and Heather McManamon; sister and brother-in-law Annabelle and Bob Luhr; sister Carol Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Judy Thompson, many nieces and nephews; and a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, 520 W. Sixth St., Reno, NV 89503.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
