Scenic Nevada photo contest due by April 1


The fifth annual photo contest for high school students and adults to promote awareness of Nevada's scenic beauty is being held by Scenic Nevada. The deadline for this contest is April 1. There are two grand prizes of $150, and one first-, second- and third-place prize.


Photos should be mailed to Scenic Nevada, P.O. Box 32, Reno, NV 89504.

Carson City


'Duke of Earl' to show at Solid Rock


The movie "Duke of Earl" will be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Solid Rock Cafe, 264 West Winnie Lane, Carson City. The public is welcome.

BAC brings Industrial Jazz Group to Carson


The Brewery Arts Center presents the Industrial Jazz Group at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the BAC Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. Tickets are $15 general and $12 for BAC members, seniors, and students.

Free 'Discover SCUBA' event at Carson pool


The High Desert Divers Dive Club, along with Strictly SCUBA Dive & Snorkel Center, will be sponsoring a free "Discover SCUBA" event for people who would like to try scuba diving in the pool.


Participants must be at least eight years old and in good health. Anyone under 18 must have all forms signed by a parent or guardian, and anyone under 12 must have their parent or guardian present during the activity.


This event will take place at the Carson Aquatic Facility. Appointments will be scheduled between 12:30 and 3 p.m.

Dog obedience classes slated for Fuji Park


Dog obedience classes will be available for those who have dogs at least four months old. Guy Yeaman will help owners teach their dogs commands such as heel, stay, sit, stand and recall. Each dog must have a choke chain.


The next session starts Tuesday at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall and is every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Cost for the six-week session is $75. For information or to register, call 265-4530.


Douglas County


4-H introduces Ski Sundays program


Douglas County's Cooperative Extension 4-H Ski/Board Club will host Ski Sundays every Sunday at Kirkwood. Meet at 8 a.m. at the county office of the UNR Cooperative Extension, 1329 Waterloo Lane, across from Lampe Park.


Lift tickets are $10 for children 12 and under, $28 for juniors 13-18, and $38 for adults. Cross-country trail prices are $5 for children, $8 for juniors, and $12 for adults. Prices do not include equipment or lessons.


Helmets are mandatory, and parents are responsible for their children and transportation. For information, call 782-9960.

V-Day focuses on ending violence against women


V-Day Reno will perform a benefit production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues," at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Pioneer Center in Reno, with the proceeds going toward organizations dedicating to ending violence against women.

Nevada backroads film to play at Bartley Ranch Park on Saturday
