A Carson City teen shot in the face during a gang dispute remained in critical condition Thursday in a Reno hospital.

Carson City Sheriff's Lt. Bob White said Christopher Piche's condition has not changed since he was admitted into Washoe Medical Center early Tuesday morning with a bullet lodged in his neck.

According to police records, Piche was a guest at a home on August Drive about 11 p.m. Monday when he was among a group of others who went outside to confront a vehicle that was following friends.

Someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Piche in the face, just to the right of his nose.

The bullet did not exit, but lodged in his neck, dangerously close to an artery leading to the spine. White said if the bullet moves, it could result in death or paralysis for the 16-year-old Carson boy.

Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a long-standing feud between rival Hispanic gangs.

On Tuesday, the vehicle believed to be used by the assailant in the shooting was recovered from a garage on Darin Court. The registered owner's husband was questioned in the shooting but no charges were filed.
