Willie Bowman, 20, of Carson City has been named a Collegiate All-American scholar. To qualify, students must earn a 3.3 grade point average or higher.

Bowman, who attends the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is studying financial management was nominated by his baseball coach Buddy Gouldsmith. Bowman, a 2004 graduate of Carson High, will appear in the Collegiate All-American Yearbook.

He is son of Bill and Karen Bowman, of Carson City.

Four Carson High students graduate from culinary college

Megan Anderson and Marc Kinder, both 2004 graduates of Carson High School, graduated from Johnson & Wales University, Providence, R.I., with associate degrees in culinary arts.

Joseph Padilla and Josephine Du Fresne, both of Carson City, graduated with associate degrees in culinary arts from the College of Culinary Arts at the Denver Campus.

Johnson & Wales, a private, nonprofit, accredited institution offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business, food service, education, hospitality and technology and was founded in 1914.

Carson City students graduate from Gonzaga University

Gretchen Taylor, a 2002 Carson High graduate, was among 616 students named to the Gonzaga University Dean's List for the spring semester. Students must earn a 3.5-3.69 grade point average to be listed. Taylor graduated from the University on May 14 with a bachelor's degree in arts. Also graduating was Stephen Hartman, a 2002 Carson High graduate, with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Derek Clemmensen, a 2003 Carson High graduate, was named to the spring dean's list.

Gardnerville resident makes dean's list in Portland

Julie Gingrich, of Gardnerville, made the 2006 springs dean's list at the University of Portland, Ore. She is a sophomore and majoring in elementary education. Students need a minimum 3.5 grade point average to make the dean's list.

Applications taken for military camp

The Devil Pups are looking for male and female teenagers to participate in a U.S. Marine Corps Base camp in Camp Pendleton, Calif. Students between the ages of 14-18 may qualify for a 10-day stay while attending camp from Aug. 2-12. The camp will provide a taste of military life and help develop leadership skills. It is free of charge, but a $50 donation is accepted for fuel costs. Call George Class at 721-5643 for information.

Carson High senior receives $10,000 scholarship

Cassandra Bowman, a Carson High School senior, received a $10,000 Drive Your Future scholarship from Mercedes-Benz USA in June. Bowman is among 150 college-bound high school seniors selected from among more than 8,000 students. A total of $1.5 million in Drive Your Future scholarships will be awarded to students across the nation. Mercedes-Benz, of Reno, and Fletcher Jones Imports, of Las Vegas, helped support Drive Your Future.

Carson student named to honor society

Brian Rebholtz, a 2002 graduate of Carson High, was elected to the University of New Hampshire chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest scholarly honor society in the nation. He is a senior majoring in religious studies and anthropology. Founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary in Virginia as a secret social and literary fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa now has 270 chapters.
