According to a recent press release by the California Department of Fish and Game (DF&G), that state agency has scheduled a series of Lake Davis/Northern Pike public workshops for this summer.

Those public workshops are in connection with the anticipated release later this summer of the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (DEIR/EIS) for the proposed Lake Davis Pike Eradication project.

They will provide the public with the opportunity to hear presentations from experts on four topic areas related to the DEIR/EIS and to ask questions to help them understand the document and to aide in their review and comment on the document.

The scheduled workshops are:

June 21: Pike Eradication Project Alternatives: The Evaluation Process and EIR/EIS Alternatives, 6 p.m., Portola United Methodist Church, 396 Second Ave., Portola. This workshop focuses on the DEIR/EIS's alternatives for pike eradication. Two main topics will be addressed: 1) how the alternatives were evaluated and selected; and 2) what alternatives are included in the DEIR/EIS.

July 11: Rotenone Formulations and Use, 6 p.m., Portola Station Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall, 171 S. Gulling St., Portola. This includes potential rotenone formulations included in the DEIR/EIS, their chemical composition, and advantages and disadvantages associated with each.

Aug. 2: Groundwater Issues, 6 p.m., Portola Station Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall, 171 S. Gulling St., Portola. This workshop focuses on groundwater, well water and chemical fate and transport.

Aug. 10: Economic Impacts of Pike, 6 p.m., Portola United Methodist Church, 396 Second Ave., Portola. Pike presence and absence affect both local and statewide economics; this workshop will explore the potential economic impacts of pike.
