Army celebrates birthday today


Mayor Marv Teixeira will help the U.S. Army celebrate its 231st birthday today in Carson City. The public is invited to a cake cutting and birthday celebration at 11 a.m. at the Carson City offices, 3246 N. Carson St.




Footprint Association to meet

Daughters of Norway to meet


The Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 will meet at 6 p.m. June 15 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Saliman Road and Highway 50 East. A white elephant and silent auction will be held. Dog Town holds dog adoption event

Douglas County


Senior Center plans June activities


The Douglas County Senior Center is planning several activities this month. Thursday, there will be a trip planned to Apple Hill. Three wineries will be visited, and participants must sign up to attend. The bus leaves at 8 a.m. from the center.


There will be a trip to Markleeville Falls on June 24. This is a three-mile hike with a 500-foot elevation gain. Bring lunch and water. Participants must sign the posted signup sheet at the center. There is a $1 charge for transportation. The bus leaves at 8 a.m. June 26 will be a meeting of the Green Thumb Garden Club at 10 a.m. at the center. Call 783-6455.

Children's Museum to participate in shopping day


The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will participate in Macy's the Reno Community Shopping Day fundraiser Friday .Purchase a $10 ticket to help raise funds to support the museum, plus enjoy 10-20 percent savings at Macy's, events, special samplings from sponsors, and a chance to win a $500 Macy's shopping spree. 'Cops and Lobsters' raises money for Special Olympics


Law enforcement personnel will volunteer in uniform to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics with "Cops and Lobsters" 5-9 p.m. Friday at the Red Lobster restaurant on South Virginia Street in Reno.
