The recent Carson City Rendezvous was not just a hit with festival-goers, it scored with the Nevada Arts Council as well.
Carson City Rendezvous Inc. received a $3,216 grant from the council, which recently approved 78 grant awards worth $439,193 in support of Nevada's art and cultural activities in fiscal 2007.
The council has also awarded $465,262 to 29 arts organizations for the second half of their Partners in Excellence - Tier II two-year grants awarded last year.
The Brewery Arts Center received the largest Partner in Excellence award - $16,528.
"Our grant panelists continue to score applicants at a high level, which of course increases the competition for our limited dollars," said Tim Jones, Nevada Arts Council board chairman. "At the same time, these high scores affirm that the Nevada nonprofit arts sector continues its commitment to serve our communities, residents and visitors with a multiplicity of cultural activities. This is the message that the board, in partnership with statewide advocacy organizations, will deliver to elected officials across the state."
Other recipients included the Carson City Symphony, which will get $5,323; Nevada Hispanic Services, which received $5,117; and the Carson Valley Arts Council, which was granted $3,246,
In Virginia City, Piper's Opera House Programs Inc. received $2,446 and St. Mary's Arts Center was awarded $2,694.
The state agency was founded in 1967 to develop and promote the arts in Nevada. It is a division in the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs.
Statewide programs include artists services, arts in education, community arts development, folklife program and grants.
