Reno Rodeo announcer gets spicy

Bob Tallman, 31-year Reno Rodeo announcer and Winnemucca native, is spicing things up.

Along with business partner Paige Mudd, he has created a line of seasonings called Ranch Fixins.

They include Steak Dust, for all types of meat or potatoes and veggies. All Around spice can be used like salt, sprinkled on meat, seafood, beans and even popcorn.

The others are Ranch Rub, Panhandle Pepper and Stampede Steak.

The seasonings are available in Reno at John Ascuaga's Nugget Gift Shop, Buck Stoved Barbecue and at the Reno International Airport.

A portion of the proceeds go to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, which helps injured cowboys and cowgirls of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

At the Storey County Senior Center, aquasize instructor Karen Wesner welcomes seniors to the Virginia City pool for the remaining Friday in June, 10-11 a.m.

Lap swimming is on Mondays and Wednesdays in June.

Beginning in July, Wesner will lead her exercises on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m.

For early-bird swimmers, and those looking for a warmer swim, a group goes to the Carson Hot Springs at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.

After the swim, the group goes to breakfast. Tuesdays are women's day and is half price.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department and Vivo Band Instrument Repair are sponsoring a band camp as part of a summer-enrichment program.

The camp, which is for students who have played an instrument for at least one year and are entering grades sixth-eighth in the fall, will be held at Seeliger Elementary School from July 31 through Aug. 4.

Camp runs 8:30 a.m.-noon each day.

The students will have the opportunity to participate in jazz band, concert band, small ensembles, music theory and song writing. A concert featuring both bands, small ensembles and soloists will be held noon Aug. 4.

The directors for the band camp are Richard and Carol Doede, retired band directors from the Carson City School District.

Students from Douglas County and Dayton are also invited.
