Kugler wins first go round in cutting

Douglas High's Alyce Kugler of the Carson/Douglas Rodeo Club looks to be well on her way to the National High School Rodeo Finals after posting the top score in girls cutting on Friday at the State High School Rodeo Finals in Fernley.

Kugler won the first go with 145 points. She also took sixth in the first go in pole bending in 22.531 seconds.

In boys cutting, Jonathon Glocknitzer, competing as an independent, took second with 147.5 points as he was just edged out by James Barton, who had 148, for first. Also for the Carson/Douglas Club, Washoe Valley's Elyse Heberger was 10th in barrell racing in 18.729.

The top 15 competitors in each event will advance to Sunday's final go round. The top four finishers in each event in the state rodeo will advance to the National High School Rodeo Finals to be held July 24-30 in Springfield, Ill.
