Gov. Kenny Guinn appointed former Assemblyman Jason Geddes to the Nevada Board of Regents on Wednesday.

Geddes will replace Doug Hill, the Reno lawyer who resigned his seat June 12.

Geddes, 39, will begin his term at the board's June 26 meeting.

Guinn said that, as a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and a former employee of the university system, Geddes is uniquely qualified to fill the position.

Geddes is governmental affairs manager for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada. Prior to that, he was environmental affairs manager at UNR.

He served as a legislator representing north and northwest Reno during the 2003 session.

Hill's term doesn't expire until 2010 but the law requires the seat be opened for election at the next general election. Because Hill resigned after the close of candidate filing for this year's elections, Geddes will serve until the 2008 elections. Whomever is elected in 2008 will only serve the remaining two years of Hill's official term before the post will be put on the ballot again.
