A funeral for Robert Scott Durnell, 85, a three-year Carson City resident, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lone Mountain Cemetery. Burial of the ashes will take place in the veterans section.

Mr. Durnell died June 21, 2006, at his home.

He was born May 7, 1921, in Hillsboro, Ohio.

He graduated from Duke University with a degree in electrical engineering.

Before moving to Carson City, Mr. Durnell lived in San Diego.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed model railroads, fishing, photography and animals. He belonged to the Norfolk and Western Historical Society and the Carson City Model Railroad Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Among his survivors are his wife, Ethel Durnell of Carson City; daughter Diana Lee Durnell; sister Barbara D. McGarry; niece and nephew-in-law Jeannette and Michael Hunter; and nephew Edward McGarry.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
