A memorial service for Wendy Jo Whitford, 49, a Reno resident since 1975, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

Ms. Whitford died Feb. 16 at home. She was born Feb. 10, 1957, in Bridgeport, Calif., to Archie and Donna Bergevin Steele.

Before moving to Reno, she lived in Carson City for most of her life.

She graduated from high school in 1975, and attended community college classes.

She was a certified nurses assistant and dialysis technician for Washoe Medical Center for more than 20 years.

She was a Methodist and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her mother in October 2005, in Dunkeld, Scotland; her birth father, Ross E. Whitford in July 1994, in California; grandfather Theodore H. Bergevin in March 1998 in Carson City; two uncles; and a cousin.

Among her survivors are her grandmother Lenore J. Olds Bergevin of Gardnerville; stepfather, Archie Steele of Scotland; sisters Linda Steel Winton and Helen Steele Hill, both of Scotland, and Stephanie Whitford Mekkelson of Auburn, Calif.; brothers Roscoe "Rocky" E. Whitford of Tracy, Calif., and Athol Steele of Scotland; two aunts; four nieces; and three nephews.

Cremation took place at John Sparks Memorial.

John Sparks Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
