Several communities will be holding Methamphetamine Task Force meetings in the next few weeks.

Dayton: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dayton High School Multipurpose Room.

Silver Springs: 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Silver Stage High School.

Silver City: 7 p.m. Monday at the fire station.

Yerington: 6 p.m. April 4 at the Boys and Girls Club.

Fernley: 6:30 p.m. April 5 in the high school's lunch room.

Carson City

Open burning allowed during April

The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning April 1-30. Burn permits with valid permit numbers must be obtained before burning will be allowed. Permit applications can be obtained starting Wednesday on the Internet at www.carson-city.nv.us/CCFD using a PDF reader, or at any of the fire station locations in Carson City: on Stewart Street, Graves Lane and Snyder Avenue.

Museum holds lecture about saloons in the West

The Nevada State Museum will be hosting a free lecture by State Historic Preservation Officer Ron James that discusses the saloon of the Wild West at 7:30 p.m. today.

Film explores fossil fuels use in U.S.

Muscle Powered and Brewery Arts Center present "End of Suburbia" at 7 p.m. Sunday at the BAC's Reynolds Theater.

The documentary film explores the American way of life and its prospects as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply.

Douglas County

Mormon Station park to get face lift

Nevada State Parks began construction Monday on the Mormon State Historic Park. A new restroom facility, pathways, a stockade fence, a barbecue and a tiled countertop in the pavilion area will be added.

Seven Victorian-style benches will be installed once construction is completed. Existing restrooms will be closed during construction, but portable restrooms will be available. The museum will be open during construction 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, and cost is $2 for ages 13 and over. Call 782-2590.
