A fire that destroyed a fifth-wheel travel trailer was intentionally set, Carson City Fire Inspector Duane Lemons said Tuesday.

He said it appears an accelerant was used to ignite the flames which engulfed the vehicle Monday night.

Fire crews were called out about 9:43 p.m. to the blaze behind a home in the 2100 block of South Roop Street.

According to Battalion Chief Dan Shirey, the 1991 Arlo fifth-wheel's owner had been allowing someone to stay in the trailer, but that person was not home at the time of the fire.

Shirey said the flames were high enough to jeopardize overhead powerlines, but there did not appear to any damage.

Crews were able to gain control in fewer than two minutes, he said.

Southbound Roop Street traffic was diverted at Fairview Drive for a short time while fire crews worked.

Lemons said charges could be pending.

Damages are estimated at $15,000
