Forget the mimosas. If you love your mom, buy her a corndog.

While it's not the normal Mother's Day food, many moms may be feasting on the deep-fried delicacy come Sunday afternoon.

For the 21st year, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is kicking off the warmer months with a Spring Fun Fair in Mills Park.

The carnival will run 4 p.m.-midnight today and Friday; noon-midnight Saturday; and noon-11 p.m. Sunday.

RSVP Marketing and Development Director Mike Hughes said, "We wanted an event to benefit RSVP and there was very little going on in the spring, so we started this fair. Now it's just grown and grown."

The fair will feature 29 vendors selling everything from jewelry and art to sunglasses and T-shirts, as well as several food vendors offering smoothies, Mexican food and the usual carnival fare.

"We have the forever-popular carnival food. Pretty much anything you could want on a stick along with cotton candy and caramel apples," said Mac Chris, manager of Inland Empire Shows. "We are the dentist's best friend."

The carnival company, based in Missoula, Mont., is providing 30 rides and games for patrons throughout the fair. All-day ride passes are available for $22, and moms ride free on Mother's Day.

"We enjoy doing the Mother's Day fair every year, and doing the moms-ride-free promotion," Chris said. "It's important that children get to see their parents take part in childhood and have some fun."

While most of the patrons come for the rides, the best part of the fair for those involved is reuniting with the vendors at each show.

Vendors such as Frank Holmes, who travels during the summer to sell the silver rings he creates, enjoy seeing familiar faces.

"We have friends all over the place that we get to see and spend time with," Holmes said. "For us, it's important to do even if we didn't make money at it."

All proceeds from the fair go to support the RSVP's Home Companion and Lifeline programs. The programs are designed to assist homebound seniors in remaining independent and in their own homes.
