(Staff report) - The body of an adult male was discovered in the Truckee River near Wadsworth at approximately 12:20 p.m. Tuesday by a couple visiting the river.

The Search and Rescue Hasty Team was able to recover the body and sheriff's office detectives have begun an investigation into the incident and identity of the victim pending an autopsy.

Authorities are warning the public that a hefty Sierra Nevada snow pack is melting and the region's rivers are swollen with frigid, swift water.

Detectives say the body may be that of Edward Wilt, 20, of Sun Valley, who jumped into the river near Painted Rock on May 1.

Friends said he was not a strong swimmer and panicked when he entered the water. They were unable to rescue him.

After several days, the search was called off.
