Lyon County residents who are gritting their teeth over traffic delays and road construction problems can expect more of the same for the rest of 2006 and into 2007.

According to a report that will be submitted to Lyon County officials at a public hearing today, NDOT officials will work on 13 projects currently under construction or planned for later this year or 2007.

Dennis Taylor, chief of program development for NDOT, said the presentation is an opportunity to inform and get comments from county residents and officials before work begins.

"We do plans for all 17 counties, as well as the tribal areas," he said. "This is part of our public participation process each year. We present the project reports for 2007, then short range for 2008 to 2009, then long range for 2010 to 2016."

Taylor said NDOT will also report on the status of current projects.

The hearing will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the commissioner's hearing room during the regular commissioners meeting.

"We give everyone the opportunity to talk about any transportation project they'd like to discuss," Taylor said.

Taylor said $22 million was slated for transportation improvement projects for 2006-2007.

"For example, there's the $12 million construction of an interchange at Interstate 80," Taylor said. "We're replacing culverts and guardrails on Highway 50 and SR 341. We also have planned several paved chain-up areas on 95A."

Taylor said NDOT also plans to work to stabilize the hillside along 342 from Silver City to Virginia City to protect against falling rock.

Also included on the list of projects is the Highway 50 Corridor Study that is expected to be completed in February 2007, he said.

He said it was premature to offer a timetable for the projects, since plans could be adjusted to allow for county or public input.
